Ann Wagner, U.S. Congresswoman representing Missouri’s 2nd district since 2013, has used her social media platform to criticize ongoing government shutdown negotiations and the policies she attributes to Democratic leadership.
On October 15, 2025, Wagner posted: "The American people do not support shutting down the government for $1.5 trillion of out-of-touch liberal policies like free healthcare for illegal immigrants.
Senator Chuck Schumer needs to stop trying to appease his far-left, radical base, support the clean bill, and reopen".
The following day, on October 16, she continued her commentary: "Here in the House, Republicans are putting Americans first.
Democrats have got to stop this race to the left that is keeping the government shut down and hurting the very communities that rely on Congress to help them."
Later that same day, Wagner stated: "I voted for a clean spending bill to fund our government, pay our troops, and ensure essential services keep running.
I am shocked that the far left is holding the government hostage for their extreme liberal policies.
This reckless government shutdown is hurting our nation,".
Wagner's comments come amid a broader national debate over federal funding and policy priorities. She has consistently positioned herself against what she describes as "extreme liberal policies," specifically referencing proposals such as free healthcare for undocumented immigrants. Her criticism targets Senate Democratic leadership and calls for passage of a so-called "clean bill" to end the shutdown.
Wagner has represented Missouri’s 2nd District in Congress since replacing Todd Akin in 2013. Born in St Louis in 1962 and currently residing in Ballwin, Wagner graduated from the University of Missouri with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1984.
